Let's build safer communities together.

While we are thanking our current volunteers during #SJAWeek, we can't forget all the volunteers from our near 1000-year history who helped shape what our charity is today! Whether it was the World Wars, past health crises, or natural disaster emerge

As one of Canada’s longest running charities, St. John Ambulance relies on our generous donors to operate our charitable programs and enhance our overall impact in BC and Yukon. Collaborating with local community organizations allows us to expand and grow our community programs, reach more people in need, and enhance our services to fully support vulnerable groups in ways that will make a difference. Grant funding and donations also allow us to provide training, supplies, and resources to our volunteers so they can continue to go out into their communities equipped with the knowledge, skills, and tools to help everyone.

In 2021, we were fortunate to receive grant funding from the following generous organizations:

  • Government of Canada - Canada Summer Jobs Program

  • BC Community Gaming Grants

  • Envision Financial Foundation

  • District of Oak Bay

  • Disability Alliance BC

  • West Vancouver Community Foundation

We are grateful for each and every one of these organizations. Without their support, St. John Ambulance would not be able to make as big of an impact in our work across BC and Yukon.

Caring in your community for 110 years in British Columbia

110 Years - Volunteering Graphic for social - Facebook.png

Providing first aid and health care for 138 years in Canada and celebrating our 110th Anniversary in British Columbia.

Throughout history, our volunteers have stepped up in dire times of need around the province and world, including providing medical aid during both World Wars and the Spanish Flu epidemic, emergency response during the BC Interior wildfires in 2017, and first aid support at vaccine clinics and quarantine sites during the current COVID-19 pandemic.

“St. John Ambulance volunteers inspire us every day with their commitment to putting the well-being of others before their own. From 1911 to now, their dedication has not wavered. I am hopeful and excited to watch our volunteer programs grow and evolve to continue to make a lasting impact,” said Jane Short, director of community services and fund development.

With your support during our 110th year of service, our volunteers can continue to be active in their communities, provide care to those who need it most, and find new ways to grow their lasting impact.

MEDICAL FIRST RESPONDERS

Your support for the Medical First Responder (MFR) Program helps provide lifesaving training to our volunteers so they can deliver first aid and healthcare-oriented services across BC. Our MFRs give their time at a variety of community-based settings, including but not limited to public gatherings, sporting and recreational events, and community celebrations.

THERAPY DOGS

Your support of the Therapy Dog Program provides our four-legged volunteers and their handlers the opportunity to visit various places in the community, such as libraries, offices, hospitals, correctional facilities, and seniors’ care homes. The program allows us to spread joy and companionship to those who need it most and support our mission to enhance mental health and well-being in our communities.

YOUTH PROGRAM

Your support of the Youth Program provides coordinated and progressive opportunities for young people aged 6 to 17 years old to become valued and vital community members. By combining first aid and youth-oriented activities, we hope to develop skills and confidence in young people who will become responsible members of society with a sense of community service.

Cadet Camp:
Creating tomorrow’s leaders.

Every year, our youth cadets go to Chilliwack, BC for Cadet Camp, where they undergo first aid and safety training, leadership development, and team building exercises. Through your generous support, our youth can partake in activities that allow them to unlock their potential in a fun, challenging, and encouraging environment. Cadet Camp prepares our youth cadets to become future leaders in our communities.
